Stop Smoking The Easy Way
By Derek Henry
Tips to quit smoking, Nicotine addiction is something that is really hard to break, in my experience gum and patches did nothing but make me want more gum and patches. When I ran out of them I once again without hesitation went back to cigarettes until I got more. But now I have not smoked in 6 months and want to share some of my tip's to help other people stop smoking for good.
1.Remember nicotine is very addictive and I don't think cold turkey is the way to go, what I did was count how mant cigarettes I was smoking in a day and every two days remove one. I started out by saying to myself do I really need three cigarettes during lunch it's only an hour so I took the one out from the middle. Taking one away every two days seemed to work for me a lot better than just stopping all together or one every day, because I think it gave my body a chance to adjust.
2. Stop the cravings, yes the craving's are by far the hardest part but I got through it, and so can you. When I first began tring to quit on my own I bought a lot of products and looked for help online. But I dropped the products pretty fast when I found my addiction had just changed to a patch or gum that was still giving me nicotine. So I looked online for help, and found some good advice. Like in between cigarettes it say's keep your hands busy by sewing or knitting. That might be good advice for some, but for me sewing and knitting would just bore the hell out of me and make me want to smoke even more. So I substituted the boring stuff with Playing on my ps3 or watching tv and going to the driving range and blasting some golf balls. It really doesn't matter what you do as long as you do somthing that keeps your hands busy and keeps your mind off of smoking. Also chewing your favorite gum might help when A bad craving strikes.
3.The last piece of the puzzle for me was the actual motion of smoking. You know lifting it up to your lips. I found out that by chewing on straws and popsicle sticks for a little bit and holding it like a cigarette that it got my mind off of smoking a lot. I know you and other people might think that is nasty, but just think what's worst, chewing on sticks, or smoking cigarettes. If you don't think smoking is nasty than stop for A few months and then hang around people who just smoked. That nasty smell, is what all the non-smokers smelled on you EVERY TIME YOU SMOKED.

I really hope that this help's some of you stop smoking. But if you read this and still feel helpless than I suggest you try this. Stop Smoking Now The Easy Way

For Smokers, Quitting Is Tied to Social Circles
By GINA KOLATA
For years, smokers have been exhorted to take the initiative and quit: use a nicotine patch, chew nicotine gum, take a prescription medication that can help, call a help line, just say no; But a new study finds that stopping is seldom an individual decision;
Smokers tend to quit in groups, the study finds, which means smoking cessation programs should work best if they focus on groups rather than individuals; It also means that people may help many more than just themselves by quitting — quitting can have a ripple effect prompting an entire social network to break the habit;
The study, by Dr; Nicholas Christakis of Harvard Medical School and James Fowler of the University of California, San Diego, followed thousands of smokers and nonsmokers for 32 years, from 1971 until 2003, studying them as part of a large network of relatives, co-workers, neighbors, friends and friends of friends;
It was a time when the percentage of adult smokers in the United States fell to 21 percent from 45 percent; As the investigators watched the smokers and their social networks, they saw what they said was a striking effect — smokers had formed little social clusters and, as the years went by, entire clusters of smokers were stopping en masse; So were clusters of clusters that were only loosely connected;
Dr; Christakis described watching the vanishing clusters as like lying on your back in a field, looking up at stars that were burning out; “It’s not like one little star turning off at a time,” he said; “Whole constellations are blinking off at once;”
As cluster after cluster of smokers disappeared, those that remained were pushed to the margins of society, isolated, with fewer friends, fewer social connections; “Smokers used to be the center of the party,” Dr; Fowler said, “but now they’ve become wallflowers;”
“We’ve known smoking was bad for your physical health,” he said; “But this shows it also is bad for your social health;”
Smokers, he said, “are likely to drive friends away;”
Their paper is to be published Thursday in The New England Journal of Medicine;
“There is an essential public health message,” said Richard Suzman, director of the office of behavioral and social research at the National Institute on Aging, which financed the study;
“Obviously, people have to take responsibility for their behavior,” Mr; Suzman said; But a social environment, he added, “can just overpower free will;”
With smoking, that can be a good thing, researchers noted;
But there also is a sad side; As Dr; Steven Schroeder of the University of California, San Francisco, pointed out in an editorial accompanying the paper, “a risk of the marginalization of smoking is that it further isolates the group of people with the highest rate of smoking — persons with mental illness, problems with substance abuse, or both;”
These are people, Dr; Schroeder notes, who already suffer from being stigmatized;
It is not clear how to resolve that problem, Dr; Fowler said; “What we are seeing is that there is a fundamental trade-off to having a campaign to really change people’s behavior,” he said;
Dr; Christakis and Dr; Fowler published a similar study last year on obesity, asking about the rise of a health problem;
The new study also looked at smoking initiation but, because many more adults were stopping smoking than starting during the years of the study, its main focus was on smoking cessation; Still, Dr; Christakis said, smoking initiation followed the same patterns as smoking cessation — people started to smoke in groups and they stopped in groups;
Such studies of social networks and behavior like smoking are extremely difficult because what is needed is detailed information on people’s behavior and the behavior of their family, their relatives, their neighbors and co-workers, their friends and their friends of friends; Dr; Christakis and Dr; Fowler discovered one data set that had what they needed but, they and others say, there may not be any others;
The data were from the federal Framingham Heart Study; It was initiated after World War II to follow the population of Framingham, Mass;, in order to understand the causes and consequences of heart disease; Researchers regularly examined the study participants, weighing them, doing medical exams, asking them whether they smoked; In order to keep track of the subjects over the years, even if they moved away, the investigators asked for the names and contact information of close friends, co-workers and neighbors;
That meant, though, that the data set also contained all the information that would be needed for an analysis of social networks and the spread of obesity or, in this case, for an analysis of social networks and the decline in smoking, Dr; Christakis and Dr; Fowler realized;
The researchers focused on 5,124 people in the Framingham study who had 53,228 friends, relatives and neighbors as part of their social networks;
They noticed that, on average, smokers clustered in groups of three; Over the years, as fewer and fewer Americans smoked, the number of clusters declined but the clusters that remained stayed the same size, which meant that smokers were not stopping smoking one by one; They were stopping in groups;
Education also played a role; Those with more education were more highly influenced by their friends, and their friends were more likely to influence them; And some social contacts were more influential than others; A spouse’s quitting was more powerful than a friend’s, and a friend’s quitting was more powerful than a sibling’s; If someone you name as a friend quits, that has more of an effect than if someone who names you as their friend quits; Co-workers had an influence only in small firms where everyone knew one another; The effects were greater among casual smokers than heavy smokers;
The study and the obesity study that preceded it, said Duncan Watts, principal research scientist at Yahoo! Research in New York, provide a new view of society;
“We tend to think of individuals as atomized units, and we think of policies as good or bad for individuals,” Dr; Watts said; “This reminds us that we are all connected to each other, and when we do something to one person, there are spillover effects;”
And, he added, when the same sort of effects show up in the spread of obesity as in the decline of smoking, that should be a signal;
“Something very powerful is going on here,” Dr; Watts said;

How To Quit Smoking & Not Gain Weight
NOT gain weight?
©( http://www.quitsmokingonline.com ) All Rights Reserved.
Ask a hundred people, 'Will you gain weight when you stop smoking?', and virtually all will say, 'Yes'.
And yet.....virtually all ARE wrong. If I asked you the question now, what would you say?
But before you answer, please read this article.......AND find out the real truth about smoking and weight gain........and THEN answer.
The Old Willpower Method
This is important. Get this clear in your mind.
When you stop smoking, it does not mean that you HAVE TO gain weight.
There are two parts to this problem and it is important that you understand BOTH of them.
First, I need to be honest with you......
Yes, in the past, people DID tend to gain weight when they gave up smoking.
But this was BECAUSE most people tried to give up smoking using the old Will-Power Method alone.
These people believed that when they gave up, they would feel terrible.
They were then told that the ONLY way to deal with these cravings was to endure them.........and hope that, with time and persistence, they would go away.
They were advised above all...... to use their Willpower and FORCE themselves not to smoke.
And......finally, they were told.... to eat snacks or nibble this or that - ANYTHING, in fact to keep them busy and their minds OFF smoking.
Why eat?
Because the feeling or the 'hunger' for a cigarette is very similar to the feeling you get when you are hungry.
And so, in the past, people ate in the terrible mistaken belief that by eating, they could satisfy their craving for a cigarette and that it would help them keep their minds off smoking.
But of course it didn't work.....
....And the MORE the feeling came back..... the MORE they ate in the belief it could help them.
'Your present is NOT dependent on your past'
So we all have to accept that there was some validity for people gaining weight in the past when they tried to quit.
But that need not be the cause today.
Remember the CAUSE was not giving up smoking but HOW these people went about the process of giving up smoking.
If you look closely at how they went about it, you'll see that....People ate TO NUMB their cravings.
Remember, when you give up smoking, you too will get these selfsame feeling/craving - 'I want a cigarette.'
And you will experience similar feelings when you realize that you cannot have one.
But unlike the old Willpower Method, you will not eat extra in order to ESCAPE or NUMB these feelings.
Why?
Because, as we explain in Our Course you will want to WELCOME and ACCEPT these feelings. You will WANT to transmute them.
These FEELINGS/CRAVINGS are NOW the KEY to your success.
Please underline this: The Old Way (Willpower method) was to hate and fear these cravings to smoke.
You were told you had a big fight on your hands, that these feelings would be unpleasant and overpowering.
And because the feeling you get when you want a cigarette is similar to how you feel when you are hungry, of course, you believed that by eating, you could satisfy these feelings or at least alleviate them.
But all you did was to temporarily block off these feelings.
By eating, you give yourself an excuse not to have to deal with and really feel these feelings.
You put off the evil day........and started to put on the pounds!
Never forget that when you give up smoking, you will CONTINUE to have these empty, restless, insecure cravings for the first two or three weeks.....
But now, for the first time in your life, LET yourself have these feelings, these empty sensations in your body. Actually feel them, moment-by-moment in your body.
CALL THEIR BLUFF!.
Sure, you will get the temptation to eat extra - to compensate - to 'fill' in the feelings you believe you are now lacking.
These desires are natural, normal.
They are not bad in themselves. And they are ONLY TEMPORARY.
Just feel them! Yes, it takes courage not to run away and try to escape by eating extra.
If you will just have patience and stay with these feelings, you will discover your moment of truth - that these cravings are no big deal and that you can easily handle them.
You don't have to eat to escape from them. (to find out more about this process, go to our free course at (http://www.quitsmokingonline.com/ )
Please underline:
The belief that you will automatically gain weight if you stop smoking is a myth.
However, there is one other issue we must deal with in regard to weight gain before we proceed.
This is the second part of the problem we mentioned earlier........
Increased metabolism?
Again and again, get this clear in your mind: Giving up smoking does not automatically have to lead to weight gain. And even the latest studies seem to confirm this.
In a large study in the UK involving over a thousand women quitting up smoking - no clear picture emerged.
Some women gained weight, others experienced no change whatsoever while other women actually LOST weight!
However, in regard to the women who gained weight - the average gain of between 5 to 10 pounds over a number of months was generally attributed to metabolic alterations i.e. the change in their metabolic rate.
Let's look at this carefully as a lot of people, especially women STILL use this as an excuse not to give up smoking.
The effects of smoking
To help us, let's try to understand the effects of smoking on your weight........
First of all, smoking DOES burn calories. Up to 200 a day if you are a heavy smoker. Thus smoking can increase your energy expenditure or metabolism.
What does this mean?
It means that when you quit smoking it can cause slight weight gain for certain individuals (unless we take appropriate action!) because their body begins to work more efficiently and their body's metabolism slows and food is digested more efficiently.
Is this bad news if it applies to you? No. it's not.
Please consider this.....
|
All it means is that you'll have to learn how to , as Kristy Farley points out ........outsmart the pounds!
But first, get this clear in your mind again and again.
When you give up smoking and do not RUN AWAY FROM or try to NUMB your cravings by EATING, YOU WILL NOT GAIN WEIGHT when you stop smoking.
The only weight gain some of our readers should be aware of is a slight weight gain of up to 5 pounds due to the change in their metabolic rate.
However, you can EASILY even avoid that by taking the FOLLOWING SIMPLE ACTION.......
......Outsmart the Pounds!
To ward off gaining ANY extra pounds when you quit, follow these simple steps and improve your general health at the same time.
Remember, if you are a heavy smoker, smoking will burn up 200 calories a day so......
|
One benefit of quitting, however is that as your body realizes the benefits of not smoking, your energy levels will increase, and you will begin to feel better physically.
A moderate increase in physical activity can keep weight gain to a minimum so.....Exercise daily.
A daily moderate workout not only distracts you from smoking, but also helps reduce tension and stress. Endorphins released in the brain during exercise actually make you feel better. Exercise also increases metabolism, helping you burn more calories.
And .....here's a great fact from the New York Times:
|
Essential Summary
If you do not RUN AWAY FROM or try to NUMB your cravings to smoke by EATING, YOU WILL NOT GAIN WEIGHT when you quit smoking. FACT.
And even if you are one of those who may experience a slight weight gain of up to 5 pounds, due to metabolic changes- that is the easiest thing to remedy! FACT
Follow our simple advice - and you will not gain even an extra pound!
But the important thing to remember here is this:
It was the Old Way of giving up smoking that caused people to gain weight in the past.
It was the terrible idea that you must use Willpower to FORCE yourself not to smoke.
And the idea that you could use substitutes like food to BLOCK or to ESCAPE from these cravings.
But our approach to giving up smoking is the exact opposite.
We want you to FACE and WELCOME ALL the cravings you get when you stop.
We want you to TRANSFORM them. You now know that by allowing and opening to every feeling and desire WITHOUT judgment or resistance you can MAGICALLY transform how these feelings FEEL, moment-by-moment in your body.
They can actually be experienced as enjoyable sensations - and thus you will feel no compulsion to use food to escape from these cravings.
So why continue EVERY DAY to....CONGEST your lungs with cancerous tars. To CLUTTER up and POISON your blood vessels. And to SENTENCE yourself to a lifetime of.....
* Filth* Bad breath* Stained teeth* Burnt clothes* Filthy ashtrays* And the foul smell of stale tobacco....
......all because of the mistaken BELIEF that if you stop smoking, you must gain weight.
Go on....show the world by your own PERSONAL EXAMPLE that it is a LIE!
Because it is!
And as you show them, ENJOY fully all the great immediate benefits you'll experience when you stop.....
|
You'll feel f-r-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c !!
Now......what is your answer to that Question, 'Will you gain weight when you stop smoking?'
Is it possible to enjoy, yes ENJOY giving up smoking - and not gain ANY weight? Follow the famous 10-day free online Quit Smoking Course at www.quitsmokingonline.com and prove it for yourself.

If you know someone that smokes then you have probably found yourself asking the question, how can I help someone to stop smoking? That is a good question, and the answer might just surprise you.
Smoking is an addiction, the same as any other drug. Those that are caught in its grasp are quick to admit that there isn't much that will lessen the pain of withdraw. For someone to quit smoking the really have to want to kick the habit, and there isn't much that you can do to help them to get into this frame of mind. How I Motivate Myself To Quit Smoking
If you are still smoking cigarettes and are seriously considering quitting, you have to ask yourself: "Am I really ready to kick the smoking habit? Am I confident I can do it successfully?" Two conditions are absolutely essential if you are going to be a successful quitter:
- You must be highly motivated to quit.
- You must be confident in your ability to do it.
In case you are wavering, or thinking of putting off your quit date, let me remind you of certain statistics about smoking and some immediate benefits of quitting. I hope these will convince you that "now' is the right time to carry through with your intentions. If you continue to smoke cigarettes, here are the risks:
- You will be 12 times more likely to die from lung cancer
- You will be 10 times more likely to die from other lung diseases.
- You will be 10 times more likely to die from cancer of the larynx
- You will be 6 times more likely to die from cancer of the mouth
- You will be twice as likely to die of heart disease
- You will be twice as likely to die of a stroke

I Quit Smoking The First Time
When I was a kid 60 years ago everyone smoked.
My Dad smoked, my Mom smoked, everyone I knew smoked. It was no wonder I smoked from the age of 11 years when I became brave enough to sneak tailor-mades from Mom's purse.
All the kids in my group smoked except that they were braver or sneakier and seemed to be able to steal whole packets. The largest packets held only 20 in those days.
By the time I was 19 years old I was smoking a little less than 60 each day. I had cigarettes hoarded everywhere: in the car because the first thing I did when I sat in the car was to light a cigarette,in the drawers of my two office desks at work, in my golf bag, on the mantelpiece above the fireplace, in my bedroom, and in my workshop. I was never going to be without a cigarette.
We did not know much about cancer and other diseases caused by cigarette smoking and I am not sure it would have mattered if we did.
And as a heavy smoker I did not really enjoy smoking. I smelled atrociously, had bad breath, sore throat, breathlessness, and a dry hacking cough. Who could enjoy all that? Nobody could!
Yet the withdrawal symptoms of the addiction were worse, so I continued to puff away.
One day I caught the flu and felt so terrible I decided that I would lay off the cigarettes for three days just to give the body a rest. I never meant to quit for good (heaven forbid). But the three days extended to six months. I cannot remember my being overly irritable but my wife can! For every minute of that six months I felt a craving for a cigarette. I was in public life then and attended many meetings and conferences and felt very lucky indeed if I were seated down-wind from a smoker.
However, after six months the craving diminished somewhat and by then I had stopped coughing up brown phlegm as my lungs cleared themselves of the toxins. So it should have become easier to continue smoke-free.
Why did I fall off the wagon? I can remember it clearly even after 30 years. I was playing early morning golf by myself and looked into a pocket I hadn't opened for a while and lo and behold there was a three-quarter full packet of cigarettes. They were dry and dusty and a little crushed and did not look very appetizing.
I thought: "These are going to be a temptation I should get rid of them, what better way of getting rid of them but to smoke them". The first one was terrible it made me feel sick and nauseous but they gradually got better and by the end of the round I was hooked.
You can call me a fool! You can call me an idiot! There's nothing you can call me that I haven't called myself worse. My only consolation is that my own doctor did the same thing. He gave up for six months and started smoking again, but that was no help to me.
The moral to the story is that it is possible to quit smoking and in these modern times there are aids which help but it still isn't easy. Persistence pays. Forgive yourself for failures and start again.
As one of the old cigarette commercials used to say: "You've got nothing to lose but your smokers cough".

What problems are caused by smoking?
By smoking, you can cause health problems not only for yourself but also for those around you.
Hurting Yourself
Smoking is an addiction. Tobacco contains nicotine, a drug that is addictive. The nicotine, therefore, makes it very difficult (although not impossible) to quit. In fact, since the U.S. Surgeon General's 1964 report on the dangers of smoking, millions of Americans have quit. Still, more than 430,000 deaths occur in the U.S. each year from smoking-related illnesses. The reason for these deaths is that smoking greatly increases the risk of getting lung cancer, heart attack, chronic lung disease, stroke, and many other cancers. Moreover, smoking is perhaps the most preventable cause of breathing (respiratory) diseases within the USA.
Hurting Others
Smoking harms not just the smoker, but also family members, coworkers, and others who breathe the smoker's cigarette smoke, called secondhand smoke or passive smoke. Among infants up to 18 months of age, secondhand smoke is associated with as many as 300,000 cases of bronchitis and pneumonia each year. In addition, secondhand smoke from a parent's cigarette increases a child's chances for middle ear problems, causes coughing and wheezing, worsens asthma, and increases an infant's risk of dying from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Exposure to passive smoke can also cause cancer. Research has shown that non-smokers who reside with a smoker have a 24% increase in risk for developing lung cancer when compared with other non-smokers. An estimated 3,000 lung cancer deaths occur each year in the U.S. that are attributable to passive smoking. Secondhand smoke also increases the risk of stroke and heart disease. If both parents smoke, a teenager is more than twice as likely to smoke as a teenager whose parents are both nonsmokers. Even in households where only one parent smokes, young people are more likely to start smoking. Pregnant women who smoke are more likely to deliver babies whose weights are too low for the babies' good health. In fact, it has been estimated that if all women quit smoking during pregnancy, about 4,000 new babies would not die each year.

Stop Smoking Aids - Natural Ways to Quit Smoking with the Help of an Herbal Smoking Cessation Product
Quitting smoking is often one of the top New Years resolutions for people far and wide, and yet many more thousands seem to pick up the habit every year despite increasing health warnings, skyrocketing tobacco prices and increased awareness, and more advanced stop smoking aids being offered to the public.
Nicotine is one of the most highly addictive controlled substances on the market today. And the price of cigarettes has multiplied exponentially over the past decade, making smoking an even less attractive habit than it already is to many people.
Unfortunately, cigarette smoking hasn't yet fallen out of favor with the youger crowd (15-22 year olds usually) as an acceptable, and even "cool" social habit. Little do these youngsters know, they are greatly jeopardizing their overall mental and physical health just to look cool, fit in, or participate in an accepted socialization tool.
You see, smoking not only gives you bad breath, accelerates the aging process and damages skin, and is bad for your heart and lungs, but it has been proven habitual smokers are more likely to succumb to depression and be subjected to higher levels of anxiety.
After quitting smoking, most people report a renewed sense of vitality, an ability to think more clearly, better health, easier breathing, dramatically reduced incidence of cold and flu and a much more positive outlook on life, including a greater sense of inner peace and tranquility.
Funny thing, most smokers don't want to quit primarily because they view the act of smoking a cigarette as soothing and a great stress reducer when in fact, the act of smoking has been proven to actually increase and perpetuate overall stress levels and anxiety. While that cigarette may seem to be a "quick fix" for anxiety, it is actually the very thing that is causing more severe anxiety to begin with... read more stop smoking aids

| Product Description "If You Love Someone Who Smokes" is a video program made to get a person to quit smoking. Everyday, thousands of people try to quit. Some succeed. Most do not. Statistics show that scary medical videos just don’t work. Neither do "you’re a bad person" videos. This film shows neither of those things. Instead, it tells the simple and profound story of two friends – NYC media guru Tony Schwartz, and NYC cop Ken McFeeley. As McFeeley was dying of lung cancer at 46 years old, he decided to work with Schwartz to make this film to help others quit smoking. To date, thousands have quit after hearing McFeeley’s story, and Schwartz became known as "media central" for the anti-smoking cause. "If You Love Someone Who Smokes" contains no medical details, no special "techniques" and it supports no specific drug solution. But for thousands of smokers, this video gives them the heart and the courage to quit-- for the last time. The film does not scare or intimidate you. But once having seen it, you can never forget it.
